The Jonathan Child House is a Greek mansion constructed in 1837 for Jonathan Child, Rochester's first mayor. It is part of the Third Ward Historic District. The historic marker out front reads: Jonathan Child First Mayor of Rochester 1834 — 1905 built the house in 1938 and lived here with his wife, Sophia Eliza Rochester Child, until 1840. Full History Jonathan Child sold the mansion in the 1840's and various residents through the years occupied it. In 1885 it became "The Pillars", a fashionable boarding house. In 1920 the Washington Club occupied it. The Fourth Church of Christ Scientist acquired the building in 1933 and it was purchased by the Landmark Society in 1957. They leased it to the Bureau of Municipal Research in 1961 and later became the Rochester Health Commission. Edwards Restaurant, previously in the Academy Building at 13 South Fitzhugh Street, relocated here in early 2002.1 The Jonathan Child House was acquired by Pillar Media Enterprises, LLC in 2011 and renovated into a special events venue called Rochester Pillars and a restaurant called Artisan Cafe. Both ventures closed in 2014. on July 1 2014, Tango Cafe moved their business to the home to have expanded ballrooms and parking. Today, the surrounding neighborhood is known as the Cascade District and has been the target of revival efforts.

The Kaleidoscope Toy Shop was a former toy store located in the Titus Mall plaza. Believed to have opened in 1985. Known as "Rochester's Largest, Most Unique Children's Specialty Store." Sold various toys like Brio Trains, Lego sets, Playmobil sets, Halloween costumes, dolls, books and other children's items. Also sold helium filled balloons. Closed in 1996. As of 2012, part of it is now a Subway restaurant, and the rest of the space is Passantino Sports.

Kate Gleason Hall, also known as Building 35, is a seven story dormitory at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Henrietta. It is one of 10 Rochester Institute of Technology dormitories. The hall features a large clock atop the building, which faces west. It was most recently renovated in the summer and fall of 1998. The hall is named in honor of Kate Gleason.

The King of Rochester Media group was based in Rochester NY, and was devoted to bringing the amazing little city of Rochester closer together. It focused on creating stronger bonds and networking connections through many different organizations and specific individuals. While Technically there was no real "King" the name is in truth a figurative symbolic title to someone who will pull the troops together and unite them in a common goal to see the Amazing city of Rochester Grow. (Though often the "King" title gets Placed on the Person who created the group and is seen all over the city of Rochester). The group been in existence since Jan 2004, and the members have been expanding since then. The site contained forums for those in the city to speak/write to one another, a place for local bands to post about their upincoming shows (as well as forums for each so people can learn more about the bands themselves). A community Calendar that is editable that informs it's members of coming events. It allows you to connect your genres of interests and hobbies to help network and create friendships all around the Rochester (and surrounding Areas). It was approximately 10 people working on this project from Writers, Artists, Programmers, Photographer, Musicians, and just generally cool folks. FREE BumperStickers and Shirts were given out at KoR organized gatherings, parties, and music events. They are given out by "the Kings Jesters" who are a bunch of fun people just helping out for free music, food, drinks. The Staff consisted of: Restaurant/Bar Reviewer: Music Reviewer Local Political NightLife Specialist Photographer Programmer Artist PR Schmoozehound. And many other amazing individuals that take time out of their busy days to help improve the world around them. Notes from the 9/15 kitchen meeting: The basic consensus among the group tha tmet was that foodshare has had difficulties growing from the small scale of the summer to the large scale it runs at currently. Specifically, current operations have been draining the bank account to nearly nothing, whereas we had been running a surplus over the summer. To fix this, and set a framework for better financial control in the future, we will be implementing much stricter adherence to the currently written rules, which we have been following only loosely up until now. Here's the notes from the meeting, typed up in a nice format. Finances Current bank account isn't precisely known due to reciept reimbursement, but its very low. I'd estimate ~100$ or less. Currently we have 11 full foodshare members (9 residential, 2 general), and 2 frequent members who are paying per meal Estimate of ~1450$ income/month. (120*11+2*3*(5/7)*30)=1448.57. Earmark 300$/week for food and food and expendable supplies (sponges, paper towels, etc.) Earmark 100$/month for non-expendable, non-food supplies—either permanent supplies (buying new pots and pans) or replacement supplies (replace broken glasses, plates, etc.) Total of ~1386 spent/month. Leaving us with ~65$ going into the account per month + guest fees. (This is slightly off from the amount in the meeting since we neglected to account for only 5 days a week of guest meals.) Kitchen Organization According to the chore descriptions, the kitchen is to be precleaned by 6 PM, with the dinner being prepared by 7:30 PM. We've drifted away from this. Please re-read the descriptions of chores, and try to aim for 7:30 as dinner time. A chore position will be created to take a kitchen inventory of food supplies. The KM (Kitchen Manager) will be responsible for keeping a copy of that inventory and using it when deciding what needs to be purchased each week. Cooks must provide the KM with a menu and a list of ingredients (including the amount needed) by Friday, 5 PM of the week prior, or they will not be reimbursed for purchase of the supplies. This is required because the scope of the current Foodshare is too great to have constant reimbursement of reciepts. Instead, we will have only the scheduled shopping trips each week, so the shoppers heading out Saturday morning need to know what to buy. There will be no official lunch option. Instead, residents are encouraged to create a voluntary lunch-share, and will organize cooking amongst themselves for members of that lunch-share, using Foodshare supplies. Far will be posting a list of Kitchen Manager responsibilities to the mailing list. Read and comment at your leisure. Cooks will be responsible for keeping a tally of How many people have come to dinner The names of non-foodshare members (who thus owe 3$) present This will be provided to the kitchen manager after the dinner, by a yet-to-be-determined method (probably a board in the kitchen) Shoppers are responsible for buying everything on the list (with discretion if something's too expensive) and anything else that fits within what the Kitchen Manager's alotted them (again, using discretion). The list will include meal dates along with the needed ingredients, and the shoppers should package and date the items as best they can so that people using the kitchen will know what ingredients are marked for dinner use on what dates. When purchasing, shoppers may either request cash ahead of time from the Kitchen Manager, or may use their own funds to purchase foods. If using the KM's cash, they will return the unused portion and reciepts immediately after shopping. If using their own funds, they will provide the KM with a reciept within 24 hours of finishing shopping and will recieve a check for the indicated amount. Users of the kitchen are not to use anything that's dated for dinner until that date has passed. Then its free for use by all foodshare members. Renovations and Long Term Supply Purchasing Non-food long-term items will be either purchased from the 100$/month supply fund (sub-set of the foodshare fund), or from the Development Fund (after a proposal is submitted and approved). Exact organization of this is yet-to-be-decided, but the 100$/month is already allocated. The pantry (i.e. Ross's old room) will hopefully be in use by the month's end. We should all get together one day (this weekend?) to help haul the really big stuff out of the room. We'll talk to David and David about getting a fridge from the warehouse to use in our pantry.

La Casa Restaurant is a Mexican restaurant in the South Wedge. They serve brunch on Sundays. Outdoor seating available. La Casa opened on February 25, 2013. It was co-founded by the owners of La Placita Mexican and Lyjha Wilton of Wilton Enterprises and Boulder Coffee Company. Controversy In May of 2014, the La Placita people filed a lawsuit against Lyjha Wilton. It alleges that he had approached them as an investor and promised to turn the restaurant over to them, but instead maintained ownership and forced them out after the business became popular and they were detained for immigration violations. 1 Wilton has countered by saying that they refused to uphold their end of the agreement, left the business voluntarily, and refused to enter mediation in an attempt resolve the matter, instead deciding to sue. Lake Shore is a semi-private golf course on the North side of Rochester, near Charlotte. Lake Shore opened in 1932, and in 2001 was purchased by a partnership including PGA Pro golfers Jeff Sluman and Dudley Hart. In recent years the course and clubhouse have been improved. They operate a restaurant on Friday evenings, which is open for catered events at other times. Lake Shore also operates a 9-hole executive course, Shore Acres, across the street.

The Lakeside Winter Celebration is an individual event that is part of the ColdRush campaign sponsored by Visit Rochester. The event generally takes place during the month of February at Ontario Beach Park. The event includes outdoor activities such as horse-drawn wagon rides, snow-sculpting, dog sledding, and other winter activities. And to warm up there is usually wine and chili inside the old ferry terminal at the Port of Rochester. The annual Polar Bear Plunge is typically held nearby on the same day.

The Latta-Meech House is an historic building in Charlotte. Located at the center of the old Village of Charlotte, it is believed to be the second-oldest structure in Monroe County after the Stone-Tolan House. It was built for pioneer Samuel Latta, for whom nearby Latta Road is named. Upon his death in 1827, the house was passed on to his daughter Esther Latta Deyo. It stayed in the family until Deyo sold it to Sanford and Sarah Meech in 1872. Their son, John Meech, the property's next owner, was president of the Charlotte Coal Company. After he died in 1940 his wife Jennie Judd Meech lived in the house until her own death in 1960. Its next owner was Dr. Erastus Edward Strobino, a beloved physician who had been practicing out of the building since 1938. In 2012 the Charlotte Community Development Corporation purchased the home from BEF Enterprises and renovated it to be a visitors' center. Also includes a business called Ma'ama Tee's Cookin' & Catering. The building still boasts its original hand-hewn beams, tree timbers, and handmade nails. LDR Char Pit, Lake Ave, Rochester NY LDR Char Pit was a restaurant on Lake Avenue that opened in 1945 and is named after the initials of the founder's three children. A roadfood.com review by Stephen Rushmore, Jr. features pictures of the famed steak sandwich and describes the sandwich as a grilled single slice of beef (as opposed to the steak sandwich available elsewhere consisting of shaved beef cooked on a griddle.) The sandwich is "a seasoned, lean steak sandwich that is so tender that adding condiments would only downgrade the experience." The reviewer gave LDR Char Pit 10/10 for visiting again, 10/10 for food, 9/10 for atmosphere, and said that it is worth driving up to 60 miles to get there. Photos
